Fender Tag \ Data Plate & VIN decode request

Hey all, I was hoping someone could help me out with this...thanks in advance

Also it is on the firewall...that makes it a Data Plate, right? It seems like these terms are interchanged, but maybe that is because of their location based on the year of the car?

Looking at the VIN you posted, I knew it was pre-65.

Here is the best I have been able to find over the years concerning information available from the body code plates:

1963 Chrysler/Imperial Body Plate Data

You can determine the model you have, trim and paint and more, but as far as determining what the numbers for the various options under the letters on those plates in those years identify, I have not found a good source for doing that reliably. That information must be available, but so far, I haven't been able to find it. And for those years, I have probably tried more than most on this site to find that information. Maybe Will (bluefury361) on this site has some input. We are about the same age (72) and have more experience with these models than most on this site..............................

Get the IBM card from Chrysler Historical or contact/join the Chrysler 300 Club. The IBM cards are free from Chrysler, you just have to decode them. And the 300 Club has all of the Letter Car Build Records from Chrysler and will decode.

Can anyone answer my question of which engine for my 1965 Dodge Custom 880? I did some research and all I could find out for row 2 AB=99 is "standard CID engine 8 cyl w/positive crank vent system. Am I going to have to look on the block to figure out exactly which V8 I have? Thanks.

As cars are not built in sequential order, the VIN is not a sequential production number. VINs are cardinal numbers, (car one, car two, car three, car four) Not Ordinal numbers first, second, third, fourth.

VIN assignment follows a sequential pattern but assembly does not.

As in later years, the SO numbers in 63 also designate purpose built cars i.e dealer promos, show cars, etc. Therefore the SO number is likely unrelated to daily production sequence numbers. SO numbers go 'too high' to follow realistic one day production figures.

There is no way to know the actual production sequence of a car from that era.
