First Comparison Between Escalade and Jeep Grand Cherokee - Motor Trend

I watched a walk around / through on youtube done by this fast talking guy Doug Demuro the other day.

Absolute money pit these cars.
The Grand Wagoneer comes with 8 ( !!! ) displays in the first 2 rows. I can only imagine how much wiring, electronic modules and other digital stuff is
in such a 6 figure luxury car nowadays. IMO it´s just usable for a 2 or 3 year leasing contract for someone able and willing to pay a 1000+ rate
per month for a car he doesn´t own and then it´s useless. It´s just a matter of time until the first electronic gremlin comes up and then
you can already drive it straight to the crusher. No one in todays world owns a 7 year old smartphone, because they don´t last that long neither will these digital monsters

You aren't wrong... I just saw a $6k radio with a damaged screen quoted for a Toyota... and personally replaced a $6k radio control head (not the whole radio, which was built into a module in the trunk) in a Benz in 2005 for a damaged screen... think about how many parts go obsolete about the time the bumper to bumper is done... don't forget that junker parts won't work in many cases because they were VIN encoded...

Years ago my crappy Nokia flip phone was used as a wheel chock... couldn't buy the screen... at least where I looked, but I swapped on from another older phone. Now you couldn't get too far with that on a stupid smart phone.

20 odd years in I have replaced my steering column and radio (twice) with junker stuff and haven't even bypassed my "TheftLock" system yet... just think about what normal attrition could do to a modern old car. Still, if I was pounding miles for work, I'd find something new and extremely disposable with an good extended warranty. These days I'm working from home and saving big on silly things like pants and deodorant... so its become less of a concern.
 
The touchscreen carplay head unit in my Grand Cherokee started to delaminate. The top overlay was peeling away and whatever shortcut was directly below the delamination line was triggered as if you touched it. That line ran across the screen so depending on what you were doing (climate, radio, nav, etc) it would trigger 1 or 5 things to happen at once. Made it unusable. Its covered under warranty but the new HU has been on order almost 4 months now. In the mean time I hsave to turn the screen off and use the manual controls for temp, etc. But no radio, nav, carplay at all. This is the first time one of these things has caused an almost undrivable situation. Definitely going to be a big consideration for the future. With a 100K I could build a damn reliable, super plush, magnetic shock, 500hp, AWD Fury with headlight washers. I would put in 50 speakers too.
 
You would need to count your labor and the very big depreciation on a 100k fury though to be apples to apples
 
I like the grille and overall appearance of the Jeep. To me it’s a welcome departure from the huge, multi-angular black (cheap looking, to me) grilles that Lexus made popular. The scowling look with the gaping lower side grilles or vents is tiresome. Sadly, none of the styling departments seem willing to put real headlights back on the cars. You need a welder’s helmet to drive at night because every vehicle now has shitty LED slits and slashes which can’t light the way ahead without being blindingly bright.
 
I can tell you from personal and professional experience the Grand Wagoneer is far superior inside compared to the Cadillac. The tech and soft surface treatments are exceptional. This vehicle is designed to compete in a different class than anything we have had in the last 30 years. It would be the Imperial if it was 1966. You have to have a separate showroom location specialized salespeople and specialized technicians dedicated to the ownership experience. High end Range Rovers/Mercedes/BMW owners are the target audience not so much the GM folks. However at $130k CDN it will be only a select few who will be driving them and even fewer selling them.
