For those of you as sick of winter as I...

Agree, except that in California, especially Los Angeles, the smog was brutal 50 years ago. It was horrible. But their emission standards for cars and industry has pretty much fixed that issue.
I have noticed the improvement in the air in Socal on my many trips there. However I'm not too sure anything else has improved whether it's environmental or social. I'm not just talking about California.

Generally agree Chris, but if the smog had continued on its upward path, I would not be living here today. No one could.

WRONG! Stage 1 smog alerts are coming back. The difference between then and now is that in the 1970's California was in the middle of a 9 year drought, or was it a 7 year? When I went to visit Yosemite only 1 of the 11(?) waterfalls had any water falling and that one was the big one and then the water was only visible 1/4 of the way down.
Kern river was pretty much dried up when I was there.
Around the time of Evis Presley's death it rained in LA and knocked all the smog out which made going up into the mountains at night for a view enjoyable, but within several weeks I remember going up on Mulholland Drive for a sunset ride and looking to downtown LA and you could see the orange cloud of smog already forming around the skyscrapers.

Now I know the water/drought problem is still present in Cali but it's been getting rain fairly regularly and that will knock down the smog. So... mudslides or smog yer choice!

Fake news and it doesn't make sense either. Automobiles/trucks, industry, shipping and airlines make up the bulk of the smog elements needed to create it - nitrogen oxides and hydrocarbons reacting in the presence of sunlight. Rain doesn't fix much of anything except maybe on the day it rains - after that, all the elements come back.

Todays cars are cleaner at the tailpipe than the background air after about the first 30 seconds of startup, and industry and the other sources of nitrogen oxides and hydrocarbons have been cleaned up enormously too.

I'm glad they were wrong about the snow here in Maryland today. Windy and cold but no dang snow!!!!

I moved to the San Fernando Valley in June 1966 yet all I knew was that we moved to Canoga Park. Come September I experienced my first Santa Ana winds and all of a sudden I saw mountains all around me where we lived. They were no more than 3-5 miles away and were invisible due to the smog. The 60's in Los Angeles were horrendous for smog.

Blue skies, 80's, and no humidity whatsoever so far all this week...
Planting my garden and plenty of Hammock time.
Very depressing to be subjected to your crummy weather stories so please stop it.
