Found a burnt trace in the power supply to the gauge. Getting a lesson in soldering tomorrow from my mom who used to be an electronic engineer :)

...and Mom does soldering. Who would of thought of that? Cool!

Does anyone know where I could find that tiny gauge wire that's wrapped around the heat bar thingy in the gas gauge?

Dear senator -

I don't know how tiny of wire you need, but here are some things I thought of:

cat5 / cat6 Ethernet cable is around 22 - 24awg
e-cig coil wire
unstrand some stranded 12awg or something if it can be non insulated wire
metal fishing line

Send one of your staff aides to altex or frys and see what they got

If you need the wire that's actually wrapped around the bimetallic bar portion of the gauge, the wire you use needs to be resistance wire like Nichrome, which heats up when current runs through it. I had to repair my fuel gauge because of a burned wire but it wasn't on the actual bimetallic bar so I just used some strands from some stranded wire laying around. Hope you can get it working.

I figured I'd save myself the headache and opted to finding one on eBay, luckily. But maybe I'll try to repair the broken gauge that way I have a spare :)

In other good news, mom came over today and helped solder the burned traces on my instrument circuit board. Saved me $200. Hope it will last.

My Mom was an aircraft radio repair woman just after WWII. I didn't find out about this unitl I had enroled in the electronics repair filed myself.
I didn't believe it possible unitl she showed some photos of her soldering a circuit board out of a P51!

I always thought of her as my mom who had 8 kids. cooked sewed cleaned.. all that mom stuff!
