Free NJ Diner to anyone who can move it

Obviously extreme situations exist BUT , yeah, whos to determine what is junk and what looks good. I bet there are people in your neighborhood that are offended with that lift in your garage when the door is open....

Stan you should be able to sue him for devaluing your property. Government has no F'n business interfering.

MOre BS Fred..... no suing! Really? You would wanna sue because a guy has a car trailer, two boats and a couple of rusty car in his yard? Look the other way, put up a fence and be done with it

I wouldn't within limits give a rats *** what my neighbour did just saying that it is a common law issue not a regulatory one which every municipal jurisdiction has made it.

Whoa, people. In my neighborhood there are no problems. The most important reason I moved here.
As far as me, the neighborhood takes great amusement of the follies of the eccentric retired truck driver because I don't work in the driveway, leave crap outside, or make a lot of noise unless the mufflers burst or let the car roll down the driveway across the lawn across the street.
Anybody have a problem with this? let's talk...

It's all about mutual respect.

Guaranteed there are those who mutter and you dont know about it.... especially when the garage door is open........

Now, go wax that Ford

I had a zoning guy here once because the neighbors (he wouldn't tell me who) bitched about the number of cars in the driveway.

I had my company car, my wife's car, three teenage son's cars and a couple of step kids that came and went at times. Yep... a bunch of cars... ALL registered and running!

He turned out to be a nice guy about it once he realized what was up. Turned out he knew my niece too.

He showed up a few months later... Same neighbor bitched. This time I showed him the registrations to every car on the property and he told me he would write a letter to the neighbor and tell them he considered the matter closed and would no longer bother me.

With all the kids gone, the driveway looks empty!

Dealing with townships and inspectors everyday I have found most to be "everyday" people, decent guys doing their job. Some however are chest thumpers

The little town I live in is really great. I've been here almost 30 years now and everyone I've ever dealt with is an "everyday" person.

They are a hot topic as long as everyone believes they have the right to tell you what to do......

I actually get along well with the five boardering properties, and in the spring and summer months the trees hide most of the yard. The guy right behind me has a 1968 GTO, so he hangs out on the fence and we talk while I work. It's the township council appointed mayor who's a real jack. The ordinance is that you can only have one, non-running vintage auto on the property as long as it is under restoration. That's why I registered my parts car sitting in the driveway. People in town use his political signs in the fall to avoid fines, kind of like blood over the doorway. I don't support that crap, so I try to keep a low profile. The diner would still be a nice addition, except I'd need a permit for anything larger than 8x8.:sFl_america2:

I have a friend who is a roofer. The city he lives in, you can not leave a 3/4 ton truck or larger outside. The police told him that they do not enforce the code unless a neighbor files a complaint, so he decided to buy the property and take his chances. He also bought a new truck, but because of the ladder racks he could not pull it into the garage.

First day in his new home the cops stopped and told him he could not park his truck outside, but would not tell him who filed the complaint. His mother lived a few miles away, so he would park his truck there and drive there every day.

Now here is the beauty of the whole thing. He did not have a second vehicle to drive back and forth, so he found a completely rusted out POS Subaru for $1,000. Now even though he had plenty of room inside his 2 car garage. It stayed outside year round (not a 3/4 ton truck so OK by the code), except when he didn't want to scrape the ice off the car in the winter.

Maybe the building could be regestered as a historical building of some sort. Then all the restrictions might be waved and one could even get a grant to restore & perserve the place.

That's like getting extorted by the local PD to contribute to the their Police Benelovant Society Fund Drive to get the little sticker to paste on your car that allows you to get off with a warning instead of a ticket.
