I have a 1972 Chrysler New Yorker front disc brakes and I’ve done many front brake jobs on disc brakes, but I am seeing two different things related to my issue. My calipers have what looks like a retainer clip going across the top of the caliper. On a YouTube site related to my car, they were doing a brake job and they did not have this retainer clip. Reason I ask is I’m hoping I don’t need that because it is dragging on the inside of the new Chrysler Road wheels I bought at Carlisle this year. I tried to upload a photo. But it tells me the image is too big. This retainer clip appears to just hook in around the caliper bolt. Any assistance would be appreciated.

If item is the wire clip as seen in the following image of a floating caliper setup, it is an anti-rattle clip. It is not necessary to the function of the brake caliper, etc. The clips can be missing and some leave them off.

Thank you for the quick response and pictures . The clip looks similar to the one in the picture, but it rides on the top of the caliper not the side but yes, that makes sense that it is an anti-rattle clip , so I’m going with you and say I don’t need it . again thank you !!

Are you sure it's the clip that's scraping? Could be the top of your caliper rubbing on the balance studs.
