I want to separate / remove the drums from my front hubs, I'm using a 5/8 hole saw. So far this is where I am:

How exactly does this process go? Am I supposed to drill deeper? Do these studs have a shoulder? I don't want to drill into that if it has a shoulder. Seems like these were a tight fit.

You've removed the swaged over portion. That's exactly what you want.

Now they should just press out. Put a block of wood under the hub and a nut on the stud and give it a quick rap with a hammer. If that doesn't knock it loose in one or two hits, it will need to be pressed out.

If by chance you are getting rid of the LH threads just whack the studs till the hub falls out.
Then press in new studs.
I never did swedge my new studs after the fact.
Now I can check and adjust my frt drum brakes by just slidibg off the drum.

I also did that with my Barracuda. I reused the studs though.
