Fury fender emblems - plastic cover?

Hey folks,

Is there a plastic cover over these emblems or is that a part of the emblem itself? The replacement threads I see here referring to sites like emblemagic.com don't appear to have a clear cover to them.

And that leads to question 2, how do you remove these- does the front wheel well insert need to be removed first?

Yes, the wheel well needs to be removed.
Plastic is probably an attempt at paint protection. I'd peel it off and toss it.
