Fuse block

The power to the regulator will be a blue wire that is also the same power source that would be power to the ballast resistor. Here is a diagram of both the early mechanical and late electronic charging systems. The field wire is usually green.

The alt ign terminal on the fuse block is for the ignition hot power for the regulator. This would be a white wire on the fuse block.

This doesn't look right to me...

I'm assuming you are using a post 70 style regulator to control the field on a pre 70 alternator.

Since the non isolated field pre 70 alternator uses ground (or -) to control the field, and the isolated field post 70 alternator uses positive (-) to control the field, I don't see as this will work.

It would work with an isolated field (post 70) alternator, but he has a non isolated field alternator.

if you have the early alt you will not have the second terminal. It was just a drawing to show the two different systems at the same time. I will dig one up that is just the early system to eliminate any questions.

The two different systems on different drawings.

And if the alternator doesn't have a ground and the regulator doesn't have a ground the system will not work properly.

Yep... I missed that.

It's what I get for trying to eat my lunch, check my email and read the forum at the same time......

Hey Jason, I haven't done anything with the IGN wires yet. I wanted to send you over my wiring diagram first to make sure what you're telling me makes sense so you can see how the car is wired. I will send that over Sunday when I have access to a bigger scanner. Other than that I am waiting on my new fuel gauge to arrive tomorrow hopefully and I'm working on the bulkhead and ammeter bypass mod to see if that changes anything with the charging troubles I've been having. Thanks for checking in! I will keep ya posted!!
