gas pedal replacement for a later model one?

whenever i get to fixing the rust on the floor and replacing the carpet of my 68 newport. i want to replace the gas pedal with a newer non attached to the floor pedal say from a 70 and up... right now the floor attachment points is rotting away >_< and when i get to fixing that and the floor mounting point might disappear o_o is the reason why i'm asking

Keep the pedal and drill two holes in your new floor patch. That will be easier than your alternative.

i was thinking the same thing, i do tend to over think things, a lot...
