I have two 78 NYB's and one had a 400. I wanted to rebuild them both but the cost to build a 400 is the same as a 440 so I started looking for a 440 in a basket to rebuild and then I'd have both cars with 440's under the hood.
I found a kid on Kijii that had a short block 440 bored 0.030" over and he said he had removed the brand new sealed power aluminum pistons. I asked why and he said he had it in his drive shed and water got into it and some cylinder walls got damaged. I bought it anyway and took it to Windsor and my late uncle Marvin did the machine work. Turned out two cylinders were pitted so he bored them two, installed two sleeves and then bored the sleeves 0.030" oversize so he could use the pistons then decked the block. The heads were 906 castings and the steel crank is internally balanced. I know some of you guys don't like photobucket but it's the best link I have to pics of the machine work.
