Can anyone tell me what the factory gear is on a 73 Newport

Yes. 9.25" diff which is what should be under a 73 Chrysler.

Factory specs call for 2.76, 3.23 optional. I ***-umed 8-3/4 rear. Not the case??

73 should have a 9.25 under it. The one I had did.

The 2 1973's that I had had 8 3/4's. I just looked in my 1973 Parts Book. NO 9 1/4 rearend's in 1973. 1974 was the first year for the 9 1/4. The people that say they had a 9 1/4 in their 73 really had a 8 1/4.

For '73, generally all with trailer package were 8.75". Cars with with 400, 440 and some 360 4BBL were standard with 8.75". 8.25" sstandard with 318 and 360 2BBL. 8.75" was also an option for small block cars if so ordered.

And the 8.25" rears got the 2.71, or a 3.21 gear set.

8 3/4" is what it be for the BB cars. That's what's in mine. I don't have the factory towing package so mine is 2.76:1.

440 no way.

Never seen an 8.25 in a C Body. My 73 Newport Custom had a 9.25 in it. 400 2v. I bought the car in 76.
