Hey guys, it's been a while. Got a new exhaust from local custom shop for my '68. It has 20-inch Dynomax super turbos and an H pipe. It's really quiet, especially when you consider how high the flow supposedly is on these mufflers. More of a blum-blum-blum mellow sound now than the blat-blat-blat it had before with glasspacks. The family next door to me has a baby and I felt awful every time I started the car in my garage with the old system. Our houses are so close together it was like someone pounding on their door. Plus the old system had a lot of pipe segments in poor condition, with little leaks that made that hollow clicking sound and let exhaust into the cabin.

Also, I tried to go fill up with 100LL avgas, which was recommended on the forums as a good ethanol-free option in the absence of E-free service stations (the closest one to Austin seems to be in Fredericksburg 1.5-2 hrs away). I went to a small general aviation airport nearby because they said they'd sell it to anyone. BUT... then they said only winged craft could pull up to the pumps, otherwise you have to put it into an approved container and put it in the car off-premises. It turns out putting pieces of scrap cardboard to create wings on the sides of the car does not suffice. Ask me how I know.

Nice, the pipes look great factory style like that!

Which reminds me, I am going to swap out the Flowmaster 40's on my 67 Newport.
The resonance at 2,000 RPM - 2,800 RPM turns the car into one huge amplifier at a Rock concert.
Can't take it any more despite the sweet idle and the cool cruising sound.

Nice looking car. I agree with Matt - the turned down tail pipes look much more natural. If you get a chance to make a video of it running, I'd sure appreciate it. One of the few changes I want to make to the 300 is swapping out the single exhaust for duals, but as much as I love glasspaks, don't want the sharp snap-snap sound. Somewhere between that and completely muffled would be nice.

Thanks, they did a nice job making the Mopar hook turndowns from scratch. I thought about doing TTI but figured I'd have so much trouble getting the flanges unstuck it wouldn't be worth it. This cost a little less than the TTI kit but included all the labor. $666 out the door, including the Dynomax muffs. No joke, that was the actual total. With a number like that I assume hellfire and brimstone will come out of the pipes at some point.

That's a change of perspective... when I was trying to decide which mufflers to get I seem to remember a thread where you said something like "if you are not an acoustic engineer just get flowmasters." :poke:

Looks great!!! Airports (and marinas) are not supposed to sell for auto use because no road tax is included in the price. Some airports also sell "mo-gas" that has no alky, lower octane (91) and lower price. Here is a link to a sight that lists places to get "pure gas".

I like the sound of the super turbo muffs that came with the tti kit. Sound good and no drone. Quiet, and loud when you stomp it. Nice car cld!

I have had good results with Summit turbo muffs not very loud and no drone and my car spins at 3300 @ 70mph

That looks like a nice system what dia pipes.

I've been running 2.5" dual exhaust, with super turbo mufflers on the wagon for about 7 years now. I love the sound! What I really like about these mufflers is they are a nice sound while driven and cruising on the hwy, BUT when you stand on it and the car down shifts and the four barrel opens...those muffler don't seem to muffle all that much.....nice and noisy when you want it to be. ;)

I wanted 2.5" -- basically was trying to have the shop mimic the components of the TTI kit -- but they had trouble getting it to fit and we went back to 2.25." It's fine, I really only wanted the larger diameter for the look. This is a stock motor, it'll breathe fine with smaller pipes.

Nice system. I'm about to have duals made for my Newport. I was thinking of 2.5" to the mufflers and 2.25" tails with an H-pipe......and then I saw these: http://www.dynomax.com/mufflers/ultra-flo-welded-x-mufflers
and started thinking maybe I could use one of these as an X-pipe instead of 2 mufflers and an H-pipe. They say it flows 2000 cfm so my stock 383 should be fine with it. I'll see what the exhaust shop says.
