Had a prostate biopsy done & it came back with 6 of 12 samples with early stage cancer. My Gleason score is 6. 2 samples are at %60 other 4 are %30 to 40 or lower. PSA has been steadily increasing for 2 years & is at 4.7 Doc recomended a prostectomy. Went had a second opinion & he agreed. Possible I can do the radioactive seeds. Anybody done the seeds? How did it go. If I have the surgury I'm out 3 to 4 weeks. Ouch!!! but very confident they can get it all. The seeds not so much, but real close. And can go back to work next day. I need to make a decision soon.

seeds are the way to go...by looks of it your a prime candidate..avoid the surgery..to many possible complications includeing incontenece ,impotency or possibly both...seeds!..Pm me if ya need more info

Sorry to hear that, my thoughts and prayers are with you for full recovery.

I do not know if this applies to everyone or not.....older Mopar friend of mind had early stages of colon cancer and he was given the same options, he went with the seeds. Here is where the catch comes in.........he was told if he did the seeds and they did not work, he could never have the surgery afterwards. I would make sure you have the option of surgery IF the seeds do not work. Good luck.

Yea thats the way it was explained to me by both doctors. The radiation will damage tissue around other organs near where the prostate is over time. This will make it very difficult & unlikely to have the surgery & will require radiation shots daily for 8 or more weeks or Chemo if it has advanced far or spread (not likely since It will be checked so much more often now. ). I will ofcourse be tested (PSA) often for the first year. Then another biopsy. What happens next depends on those results. The surgury will remove the prostate. Again tested often for a year. No need to do a biopsy cause the prostate is gone. If PSA still exist then they can go back in with a laser & zap the cancer cells remaining. Not sure how they will know where they will be? I almost think I need to go back & talk with my doc again. Just doubt the ins company will pay for another consultation.

I've already said a prayer for you & I pray that your doctors are world class.

I know two other guys going through the same thing & they're both doing just fine.

lotsa fun..head to hospital with friend...they put ya down..few hrs later yer walking out the door sporting a new catheter..next day ya go back and the pretty young nurse grabs ya by the goods and yanks it out..thats the worst part..other than that is somewhat painless..couple 3 days at home and light duties by end of week..after 3-4 days you wouldn't even know you've been to hospital..not invaisive at all realy as opposed to surgery...along with seeds they may prescribe bicalutamide which is a hormone which kills terresterone production..the cancer cells feed on teresterone
