Because it was a boring movie B movie..... Dirty Mary Crazy Larry though indicative of the times it was almost all chase too.... with a focus on the Cs as police cars

I am excited, we have an old movie theater in downtown Columbus, than runs classic movies in the summer. One of the movies this year is Bullitt. It will be cool to see it on the big screen.

Bullitt has the coolest sound track by far. Who did the score? Maybe Vanishing point after that or DMCL.
Lalo Schifrin did the score for Bullitt as well as Dirty Harry, Magnum Force, T.V. shows Mission impossible, Mannix. Bullitt soundtrack was available on CD a few years back, check E-bay.

How about McQ with John Wayne? Drove a Trans Am named the Green Hornet, I think the sound effects are from Vanishing Point and Bullitt. Movie also has a big block 1969 Satellite or Belvedere four door being chased on the beach.

Did you know that most of the sound effects (engine sounds) in Vanishing Point were from a Ford Mustang.
I thought the only time they dubbed the Mustang was the desert scene when the old man gets in the car and they drive off, definitely not Mopar.

How about Roscoe chasing Daisey Duke in her Road Runner while she's wearing her "Daisey Dukes".....

I just saw this one on late nite T.V., Freebie and the Bean great car chase between a 70 Fury and a LTD. Some old Mopars in the background, too bad most get wrecked.

a great and funny movie with good stunts. Love the blue Fury

I don't hate Bullitt, but the first part of the chase seen is the same 3-4 shots repeated several times, you see the same vw bug again and again. I always thought that was dumb.

As for Vanishing Point, that was Chrysler's idea to sell their new challenger. Itvwasnt the best plot ever, but who needs one? Look at ANY Nicholas Cage movie. Dirty Mary was also a B movie. Made a killing over in Germany, but that doesn't make it any better.

I wouldn't call them B movies, simply cos they had name brand actors in the movies and had plots and characters of note etc, a B grade movie is truly cheesy, such as "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes" I thought Vanishing point was in interesting story of a guy who was always trying, always ending up coming off second best. All his life, in the end he just said "**** it" and drove his car into the dozer blades, Hell he lost his Love in the surf, lost his job on the police force for doing the right thing, couldnt make it as a rallycross bike rider, yeah he was smiling at the end, finally going out his own way and no one could stop him.

I read a story years ago about Vanishing Point. According to the story the screenplay was based on two true but unrelated events, the firing of a police officer after he exposed corruption in the department, and a guy who refused to stop for police and was killed when he drove into a police roadblock.

That doesn't make it interesting, only the car made it interesting

So, are you saying you don't like the movie?

I'm glad I saw the garbage remake first, the original is 1000 times better. I still like it even though it's not the best movie ever.

Lets face it, the attraction is the Dodge. I had seen the movie on VHS several times in the 80's because of the car. The story is a snoozefest. So many movies are no good but the cars make it

The people making the movie knew it was low budget junk, I think the entire film crew consisted of about 20 people filming by day drinking by night. I recall it was released right to the drive in.

Vanishing Point

I like it.

I like the music, I like the vibe, I like the look back to what people cars, buildings, styles were like, I love the Cop cars and the Challenger driving scenes.

There are a lot more stupid movies that have nothing to offer

I guess I wouldn't mind the original Vanishing Point movie, if they downplayed the drugs just a bit, had a bit better selection of music, and a lot better dialog. And considering the importance of his girlfriend's death to the movie plot, they should have developed that a bit more. In the movie it doesn't seem significant enough to give him the death wish that he apparently already has at the start of the movie.

If the movie, Duel, featured the Challenger instead of the Valiant 4 door, and Vanishing Point had the Valiant 4 door instead of the Challenger, I wonder if Vanishing Point would even make the list. I bet Duel would be on the list if Dennis Weaver were driving the white Challenger.
