has any body built a 451?

Damn I Was Hoping I Wouldnt HAve Made A Mistake Ive Already Got A Set Of 6.760 I Beam. CouLd Always Save Them For My 440 For Later I Suppose. And Search For A Set Of Shorter Rods...

You haven't done anything wrong. If you already have the long rod, run it, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference in your application. If you were starting from scratch it might make a difference, but you never would feel it in the seat of your pants. In some sort of competition atmosphere you would tune the rod/stroke ratio for the heads, camshaft and rpm range you are running. With a 451 you are basically running a bigger bore 440. The 440 makes pretty good torque at lower rpm's for an engine with a rod that's "too long".
 
well that's good to know I guess might as well use what I have. ill be trying to put a cap on the compression to around 9.8:1 of course thatl depend on my heads, the gaskets pistons ect. they're at 90cc right now and Ill have them cut for 83cc if there's enough material. unfortunately I live in Nebraska the land of corn which equates to ethanol which id rather not run if I can help it. I'm lucky here if I can find 91 octane though if prefer to run on 89 which I know limits the amount of power I can get out of it. id be ok with 9.5:1 but once again im still learing and I know that depends on the cam ect and from what ive read to high a compression with to small a cam in duration will lead to detonation. man you guys are a wealth of knowledge on here I appreciate all your help. On that note ill be springing for roller rockers and I hope that my heads will flow enough after the template porting to support a decent cam. Ive narrowed it down to the lunati 60303. or the howards grind that's a two degrees shorter on the intake and have it ground to the same lsa as the lunati though I don't know if I really need the extra lift. So perhaps I should move this post if you all agree to a more general subject of a 451 build so people aren't reading a million and one questions. I ask a ton due to the fact that ive only built a couple of engines and my machinist is ultra conservative about things make me wander some times.
