Call me crazy, but I have been accumulating parts for a car I don't even own. It all started with buying the grill and side mark lights form Will for a 69 300. I will be picking up a bumper and half of the surround. I have also located a headlight motor, rods and bracket.

Done with the back story, is the motor rare enough that I should buy it now since I have located it? Also should I make sure it is in working order or be happy I have a core to work from?

Also does anyone have a restorable drivers side surround they would be willing to part with? :)

If it's a decent price, grab it. The rods and bracket are probably harder to find.

If the motor doesn't work, the usual problem is the bearing in the bottom of the motor has become gummed up. The gear is available if needed too.

Definitely grab it! I take all I can find as they are pricey otherwise.

Can you post a pic of the surround you want? I have some from a 70

Thanks, good to hear they can be serviced, I figure I might as well get it then.

Here is a picture of the right side.

Here is a good picture of the surround for comparison of your '70 on Will's '69

Headlight motors for your car currently cost $275 to rebuild from a good core. The few new ones that are around are usually about $450 or more asking.

Don't really know what a working used one is worth. Do not recommend taking one of these apart unless you know what you are doing, the brush holders are cheap plastic and break easily and there are no after market replacements for the holders.

70 is very different.

Yes I started comparing them and realized they are different. It does seem the bumpers are exactly the same in '69 and '70. Does anyone know this for certain?

The motor's have a plastic limit switch which will easily break if you power up an uninstalled motor. Virtually all "failed" motors have a broken limit switch which can bed replaced. I've seen them of eBay from time to time. Note the color of the switch assembly is important.
Red - Plymouth's and Charger's
Black or Green - Dodge Monaco
White - Imperial's
Couple of motor with the switches exposed

Front bumpers are the same, ‘69-‘70. Rears are different.

I remember reading that in my 70 FSM and then I was looking at a 71(?) manual and it said that you could check it out of the car.

After seeing your post, I think the difference is the style of contacts. The later style (bottom pic) can be powered up. I did it with mine with no ill effects after reading in the FSM.... What I didn't know until now was there were two styles. Now it makes sense. My car has a later motor in it.

I have powered up all of mine albeit short bursts and it has been fine
