Seeing the picture of Barham reminded me of that ship's dramatic end.

Notice the narrator's words that the actual cause of the explosion is not known, Dr. Karl Von den Steinen of CSU Sacramento, and Navy Lt. Commander Res., said a theory is another torpedo penetrated the deck after the ship rolled. After all, there's not much armor below deck.

Sorry about the ad in the video.

Temperature inversion, aka. a "superior mirage".

"Superior mirages occur because of the weather condition known as a temperature inversion, where cold air lies close to the sea with warmer air above it," Braine said. "Since cold air is denser than warm air, it bends light towards the eyes of someone standing on the ground or on the coast, changing how a distant object appears."

Had to figure out what this was. Project Azorian. a triple gimbal bearing

Other source: The Glomar Explorer

"To expand on my previous comment, here is a link to Glomar Explorer, which was the ship that actually did the lift. The bearing was part of the gimbal assembly, allowing the ship to pitch & roll on the surface while maintaining a fixed position on the lift. The bearing picture is on page 2-20"
