Hey guys i recently bought a 1968 plymouth fury 3. I had it for 3 weeks and i turn it on once a week and today i saw white smoke coming out of the header area. I know it has a tranny fluid leak but i doubt it's that? What could cause this? And i want to make the engine a 450-600hp engine any ideas where to start? I have read the car craft build they did and the muscle mag supercharged build. THANKS!

Well said Stan. I got nothing to ad except this thread is worthless without pics!!

450-600hp from a 383...gonna spend a large chunk of change to get those kind of numbers.

White smoke is probably oil, or tranny fluid on exhaust.

Thanks. It's a v8 318... I read it online haha. Why do you say that tho? Oh and it small amount of fire came out when trying to start it up but nothing was harmed guess it was just oil? So any idea where to start? I have little mechanic experience so be patient with me haha.

Lets just say you have a long way to go. Thanks for the pics and welcome to the site from the Motor City! You should drive and enjoy maintaining it for a while learning along the way and if you're truly looking for a hot streetcar, save about 3 grand or more to put into a 440. The interior looks pretty good.
where you from?

Stan, go easy, there's nothing wrong with being seemingly new into the hobby and obviously excited about the possibilities.

More than willing to mentor him.
I gave Nick a face palm in the beginning too. LOL!!

Welcome aboard Guy94. :sSig_hihihi:

So, let's get to work on that smoke and see what's going on.

Welcome, cool car.

Did you say that you had fire under the hood?

:sSig_greetingsthor: ........ :welcome: ....... Nice Fury. I agree with Matt, Drive, enjoy an learn about your car.
HP costs money ... The more Hp the more money. Plus you can lose the "driver friendly" aspect if you go in the wrong direction.

What about the "fire" issue ....? Where did it come out of .... The carb, the exhaust, the glove box ....? It makes a difference.

Like has been said, focus on getting the running clean reliable and safe. Start saving lots of money, probably $4000+ and find somebody local that is a mechanic and a Mopar nut, buy him donuts, lunch give him spare parts basically do whatever it take to have him as a good friend because unless you are a mechanic it will start costing you. My cars are drivers and I’m no mechanic so I keep them simple so I don’t have the need to be tinkering with them. I’m comfortable under the car; brakes, oil changes and chassis work but under the hood I’m treading on thin ice. In short know your limits and remember this is suppose to be a hobby, enjoy it.

Thanks for all the info you guys! Ok... I live in fresno county. Small amount of white smoke came out the carb and on the driver side header. Then fire came out of the carburetor i guess since the air cleaner top popped off hahaha. Also I have to try atleast 8-10 times to get the engine to turn on but i guess it needs a rebuild or a new one (good excuse to get another engine lol) since it has 930,xxx miles on it? Any idea where to get a 440?
