Hood riding high

anyone out there ever have the rear corners of there hood stay up an inch after closing it. It’s gotten worse & I have to make sure it’s lined up so my quarter panel doesn’t get the guillotined. I can push it down afterwards by hand but this is no way to go thru life.

First check the hinge pins for excessive wear. If they are tight, there is a pivot adjustment on the hinges that can be reset to bring the tail of the hood back down. This will usually involve having to add or remove shims from the rear of the hinge where it mounts to the firewall. Sometimes when a car has taken a hit to the front of the hood, the hinges or firewall will be bent slightly to where the tail of the hood will stay high even with a new hood installed, so check the mount points for the hinge on the firewall for deformation, usually this can be corrected by adding shims to the top bolt in the hinge where hinge mounts to the firewall, but each type of damage is a little different.

My brothers 66 Satellite does the same thing, obviously something is worn to the point that it does that. Frustrates my brother as well but don't know what he's done if anything to fix it? A moral support post if anything. Good Luck

The hood on my Challenger does this, I think the hinges are just worn out.

My GTO did that also. The 35 year old hinges were worn. Once closed I was able to push the hood down by hand to get it flush with the fenders. Those cars were also notorious for the hood kinking right at the hinge. You had to kinda wiggle the hood when you started to pull it closed. Have never seen that with a Mopar.

Then you have never owned a 1960 Imperial. They were notorious for that. So keep the hinges lubed well.

They can be rebuilt. Can't remember the name of the place we used but all the B & E bodies we did automatically had door and hood hinges rebuilt. Better to do it right the first time. I'll find the name of the place and update.

I learn a valuable lesson from my mentor/boss at 16. I still do it today.
He saw me shut the hood on a customer's car one day, came over, and whacked me on the head.
"Don't let me catch you doin that again." and then said, "WATCH!"
He stood on one side of the car and pulled down the hood with one hand up at the front and pushed down with the other hand at the back of the hood to keep it from "springing".
You didn't wanna spring a customer's hood working for Mike. Trust me....

So what keeps the other side from "springing"? You should have whacked Mike on the head and told him to get a life and stop brow beating his help over nonsense. He needlessly traumatized you. That explains a lot!

Thanks for all the input. I’m leaning towards worn out issue. Its a 4 step process on a seasonal ride. That’s a tough lot in life holding up that hood. I can live with it for now till I score a hinges. Can I just try the springs & see if that helps. Kinda like a garage door?
