Is this cool or what. Love to have this stuffed under the hood of a 50’s or 60’s D100. It would make me cooler than I already am if that’s possible

I think that's a straight 8 Chrysler flathead with a custom valve cover bolted to it. I saw pic of the other side of the engine and it sure looks like it.

Yea I figured it was a straight 8 block. Was curious how they worked with the push rods

Really looks just like a fake cover to me. Note the wing nuts.

I wouldn't say misguided. Whoever did that was very creative, can't be mad at that. Some of the wildly creative things you see on Rat Rods are the only thing I really like about them. It's more like art than anything else you see in automotive culture IMO.

Yea I agree. I was not a fan of rat rods at first untill they started showing up at local shows. Yea some crappy ones but a lot of well built clever ones too. It’s amazing what some of these guys can build out of scrap that peaks the imagination

Good point Bob. With all the at home time we've had I have looked to my used parts stash with a different eye and have "repurposed" several parts and pieces into "art". wheel cover spinner centers as coat hangers, vintage mirrors as book ends, tail lights as nite lights, a complete 69 300 tail light assy as a wall hanger. Now working on a 61 Plymouth 1/4 panel with lighted tail light, mounted on a board, also a wall hanger. Great man cave stuff.
Funny thing. Most of these things were less than driver quality, Now they have value.

I'm a little bit opposite of you. I actually liked rat rods at first because I thought it was an interesting way to use various parts and vehicles that weren't restoration candidates. I've seen some creative work too. But once rat rods became trendy and look-at-me wanna-be-tough guys started paying $20K+ and cutting up good cars, well I've hated them since.

Yup, flathead. No Hemi head. Exhaust is on the wrong side.
