How I had fun this weekend.

I'm all for the screen in front of the rad to protect against stones and bugs, but how do I do it between the fan and the rad?

something like this between fan and rad

That was more rhetorical and/or warning you how valuable any spare radiators you may have can be. Just figures - I have 3 spare radiators for 65 Polara, et. al., but none of them are for an air conditioned car so they're only 2 row instead of 3.

I figured as much, but I was all ears if you did have a method.

There's certainly not a whole lot of room back there, but I have been pondering how to make and mount somethig that would be strong enough to deal with an errant fan yet allow airflow...

All you can do is hope you shut down in time... under hood checks and stray noises will drive you nuts if you're too worried, these things happen once in a while, and always have. Other than hoarding a spare when you find one, not much you can do... on the road, a replacement that fits will still get you home... Spectra Premium will show up in a day or 2 and cost $225, who knows, it might even work good for you.

Still a lousy thing to have happen, especially on the road.

Absolutely. I've been lucky so far in 30 years of Mopar ownership of never having that happen... but I also like to think of simple/effective ways to preclude the issue if my number comes up.

Things like driveshaft loops and pull-apart-proof engine mounts start to make real sense when I've spent a large chunk in restoring my car and upping the torque & hp... rad protection is worth looking into...

Nahhh, can't sweat it too much, if you wanna play, you gotta pay. Just like to be able to come here and bellyache about it some, although I do have to admit the price for a recore really surprised me - I was guesstimating around 400 and would have been happy at that price. The real irritating part is getting in too much of a hurry and messing up a beautiful bumper, those $$$ are gonna hurt when they go bye-bye.

You're right - one has to have a limit with all of that shyte or it becomes no fun.

...and we've all been in "too much of a hurry" one time or another... I definitely have a story or two from moments like that.

It's always the damage we do by our mistakes that continue to bother us... all you can do is forgive yourself and get rid of the evidence ASAP...

You say that like you have a lot of practice getting rid of the evidence.
Not only my own... Funny thing happened long ago... Stopped by my parents house one evening and found them to be out of town and my high school aged brother with a house party in full tilt. I did what every older brother should do, I stole a beer and on the way out of the driveway fixed the side molding that was knocked back about 6 inches on my mom's car he had been using to gather friends earlier that evening.

He still hasn't fully forgiven me for fixing the car mom screwed up in the parking lot at work... which made dad suspicious and got him busted for the party (empties found in the neighbor's trash).

I try... :D

Just waiting on one more piece to put everything back together, that cotton pickin' little idler pulley for the fan that's no longer available. The radiator's back and looks nice, the core mfg. had to special build it when the shop ordered it so it took a lil longer and my fresh bumper showed up yesterday and that really looks nice - can't wait to get that hung on the front.

Okay, I overstated it - no longer available at the dealer, and the local parts store had nothing available. I ordered this one but it hasn't showed up yet.

What irritates me is that I know I have one on the shelf somewhere, just can't figure out which shelf it is. CRS is no fun sometimes. Well, that and having stuff spread over all 5 acres and all available buildings..........

Back in the day, every time you got gas you checked the oil, the brake fluid and did a visual of the fan belts. As well you would grab the fan on either side and see if you could feel any play in the water pump. Way back in the day, all gas stations were full service and they not only did those checks, but also tire pressure, air filter, windshield wipers, bug juice, auto trans fluid and power steering fluid. Gradually this service disappeared to self service and a kid in a cage to control the pumps. I now very seldom even look under the hood of my newer cars. My Fury is forcing me back to my old habits and I rather enjoy it!

I worked at a full service station, and was told to only do what the customer asked you to. And I've gotten worse over the years checking my vehicles, but I usually drive something that is disposable. I always check the Polara, cause it's old!
