For Sale I “may” be going to look at the '69 300 at Greensboro auction (more advice?)

ATC? sorry, I had to ask

ATC + Automatic temp control. Usually don't work and almost impossible to find replacement parts for. (Same as NO air, IMHO).
The original top has a glass window that stays in place when lowered. The earlier plastic windows should be unzipped when lowering the top, mainly for longevity.
Find a strong magnet and glue a piece of felt to it to help determine if/how much filler is present. Should be none on the frame rails.
Frame rails are very difficult to repair/replace and any work done there will be evident.

So Dale and I took the cruise up to Greensboro and checked out the Chrysler 300 up for Auction, there were 550 cars all classics being auctioned. I only took a couple of pics of other cars. WE checked out the 300 and found it was a pretty nice car, very clean throughout, it showed repairs in the lower ear quarter and rear frame rail repair as well. They had used body deadener to coat the trunk floor as well. Then painted it red. The air cleaner is some aftermarket thingy and after having looked over the car thoroughly I felt Dale should go no more than $12K on the car. As it was it did sell for a little bit more. Check the pics.

hey Gary, thanks for taking the pics and thanks again for coming along with me and checking out the 300. I was tempted, but I'm "hoping" that perhaps I can find something similar for less, or something a little better for about the same price as this one went for. Then also there is, as we discussed, extra 6 % buyer's fee, etc. Love to hear feedback from others on the auction result and current prices you are seeing on 300's or otherwise.

So. . . The car went for a shade over $14K (after the buyer's premium). Pretty fair price if the car is mostly done as original. Did you guys get a shot of the build plate on that car ? I'm wondering if red is the original color, or was it some other color (like green) originally ?

Thanks a lot for reporting back on the car, guys.

hey there, actually, we had a quick look at the plate, and I don't think Gary took a photo, but it was indeed an original R6 Crimson (?) car....i may regret passing on it, but hoping there's may be similar ones out there with the same options.

Thanks again for reporting back on that car. And don't worry, there is always another car out there. . .

just as a reminder, I still like this car in Canada, but like i mentioned before, the guy won't give me any more info at all, and acts like he doesn't want to sell it. Plus it's been on the market for while, so either it's the seller, he's hiding something, or both. but anyway if any of you guys up north find it east to examine it, and I could possibly find fairly cheap shipping option, please let me know if you find out about it. I really like the TNT option as well. thanks.

another new twist, I recall finding this car after I got into C bodies thinking it was a great one to get. I am almost sure it's the same car. Interestingly, it says that it had all original sheetmetal and that it was from Tx, but guess it still could have had the one rusty section in the frame rail. Anyway, give an idea of how much they stripped it down. Also, i looked for a really bad paint section on the trunk, but couldn't tell from the photos, but maybe it wasn't visible. Look forward to Gary's comments on it. Doesn't say, as far as I can tell, how much it went for before.

They are getting pricey, aren't they? I'm still not a fan of the way the top was done with the snaps. Now I see the goofy piping on the seats and the lack of chrome trim on the head rests. Makes me wonder why go through all the trouble of detailing this car down to the factory triple side stripe, but then take liberties with the most obvious parts of the car? Not really a deal killer for most, but for 14K it should be correct. There will come a time when you will have to compromise with your budget. Like Rip said, there will be others, I just prefer to get mine before these "restoration houses" start pumping these out, creating "one of none" models with six-packs and Hemis.

good point, yeah, that's my concern how many more will come up? could be I missed my big chance (?)

Another few factoids found.

“The color is actually Viper Red, perhaps a few shades brighter than the factory Crimson, but once you see this car in person, I don’t think anyone will complain. The white accent stripes that gracefully trace the arc of the fuselage styling along the sides were actually painted on, then buried under the clear, so they’ll look crisp virtually forever.” To me this is a minus, I’d prefer closer to factory, like the one that got away from me in Las Vegas.

“The floors and chassis are in very good original condition, having been undercoated from new and spending four decades in Texas, and while it’s not detailed for show, there’s absolutely nothing underneath that should cause a new owner any concerns.” Again, even with undercoating, guess the one frame rail got some rust (?)
