I thought the Imperial became a Chrysler model, toward the end. Originally it’s own nameplate. 1966, or 1969 maybe?
Imperial was a Chrysler model starting in 1926 and became a separate division in 1955 and then ran to 1975 when they stopped. As I understand it, when they revived it in 1981, the 81-83 were still considered to be Imperials but I don't think the Imperial division still existed, so that might be a gray area.

In 1990, (I had to look this up) the Imperial became a Chrysler model until finally stopping in 1994.

So definitely it was a separate division until 1975.

In 74 it became a Chrysler model. In 76 they dropped the name and changed it to New Yorker Brougham. That split grill body, 74 thru 78 was a beautiful design. I first saw it in the window of the Jefferson factory. Along with a New Yorker, and a Newport. The Imperial really stood out. I only recently took interest in the history of Imperials. Since learning about the D body full frame platform. The switch to C body along with later nameplate changes. Good stuff, very confusing though. Seems like they would have dropped the nameplate when they dropped the full frame D platform. All the changes makes for a great variety of styles. What a great car. My favorites are the 63, 64, and 74.

Agreed the Imperial 30 year run from 1955 through 1975 was designated as its own division, but I have noticed sometime during the 1971 production, the trunk lid logo began adding the emblem "Imperial by Chrysler".
I've seen the 71 model with & without this emblem, almost every 72 and 73 had them too that I've seen, noting the Imperials that were missing the trunk logo had a re-paint at some point. Sometimes just the "by Chrysler" logo was missing since it was not attached with a speed nut but was a stick-on logo and may had fallen off over time.
74 & 75 Imperial's no longer has the "by Chrysler" listed in the model's brand name call out.
The Imperial sales for reasons unknown couldn't keep place with the Lincolns or Cadillacs of the time, and I feel adding the "by Chrysler" logo didn't help keep the distinction clear between Chryslers & Imperials, and it drove more people to purchase high-end New Yorkers instead of the Imperial.

I don't think I've ever seen (or noticed LOL) that "by Chrysler" emblem.

Odd that they did that as a separate emblem too. Now I gotta look at the parts book and any fuselage Imperials I see.

I don't know about that, I'm starting to develop the VIN sickness with cataloging the AMF Sportster & SuperGlide years of Harley-Davidson and at times I can spend just about a whole day culling Hi-Res images from FB Marketplace & eBay for my database. Not so much with Craigslist as all I see is the same AD's over and over plus the spam.
I'm amazed to find many bogus VIN's starting to show year after year in the past several years. Here's the latest find.

These strike-thru VIN's are actually done by the factory via a member of a AMF era group that worked on the York PA. assembly line.
He said some days the hangover ruled the day at the plant.
