I chased this 76 NYB right up to the end and got Sniped

It didn't answer my two specific questions...

I think 1,000 points. Final price is $6,010. Or $6,000 plus 1,000 points - which you might have bought earlier in bulk.

"no single fee is ever more than $10 or 1,000 BidPoints" - from their website. But I've never used it so perhaps someone who has would be in a better position to answer.

So the most points I need to buy is a 1,000 for $10.00 and I can still chase a potentially $50,000.00 car (or any item for that matter)...

So it would seem.

But the service also mentions new users can try it for free. So as a new user, you might not owe anything to esnipe for that $50,000 car.

Sounds interesting.....I've never used esnipe .......yet.

I always buy things on EBay through BIN pricing. I was a serious bidder on 3 cars and didn't get any of the cars. Two different Imperials and a Super Bee.

I've used gixen flawlessly for over two years now. Not even a shadow of a doubt in my mind.

I have used Auctionsniper for years. I would check them out as well.

This might help clear up the bid point question on esnipe.

As far as placing bids over 5K..... I think I would either have to inspect or have the item inspected rather then placing a bid based on pictures and information supplied by a seller.

In which case I would then attempt to neg a deal outside of ebay to avoid the stupid fees they charge.

There are other snipe bid sites out there but they collect and exchange personal information.

eSnipe users are charged using a micropayment system called BidPoints. Each BidPoint costs 1 cent and pays for $1 of the final auction price only if you win. If you don't win, there's no charge. You buy BidPoints at the rate of 1 BidPoint per $1 of the auction closing amount (normally called the "auction win"), rounded down to the nearest BidPoint. If you're confused by this whole BidPoints thing, don't worry. It's all handled automatically, and you can see your balance easily. If you take the time to learn about BidPoints you'll find that they can save you money over and above the 1% if you buy in bulk. Using BidPoints allows eSnipe to keep costs down by minimizing transaction fees for credit cards and electronic checks, to issue refunds quickly, and to offer promotions from time to time.
