I've never needed to remove the compressor to do the valve cover gaskets...did you replace the factory ones with the aluminum Mopar Perf one's?

I use FelPro VS50145R for a 69 Charger R/T with a 440. It's the HD /Hi-Performance gasket set. Fiber/rubber gaskets.
