I have a question about these cars

Now for the devils advocate part.

I love my old cars and they are all that I have but when my brothers get in my cars the first thing they comment on is what they will hit if we’re in an accident not having airbags. They also don’t want their kids getting old cars without airbags and antilock brakes blaa blaa blaa…

My only negative comment about these is that the power steering can get a little touchy at high speed, I can see why the CHP wanted manual steering in their cars.

Yes these cars can perform and handle nicely but the safety aspects don’t compare to the newer cars. The myth that nothing beats old iron is a fallacy, yes you will win against a Honda but that is about it.

I know it's not a Chrysler, but still interesting.

The new cars are safer than the old cars in a crash, no doubt about it. The late sixties and seventies cars are a lot safer than that 59 Chevy though.

A lot of things happened in the sixties as far as safety. Uni-bodies are stronger, seat belts became standard, collapsible steering columns, better tires (belted and followed by radials), dual braking hydraulics, better brakes and on and on. Crash a late sixties Chrysler into that 59 Chevy and the Chrysler will win. Crash the Chrysler into the new Chevy and yes, the Chevy will win, but not by the margin shown in the video.

IMHO, the real thing is accident avoidance, not crash worthiness anyway. The new cars have given a false sense of security to the people that have only driven them. Those of us that grew up driving cars with bias tires and no anti lock brakes have a little more respect for the true uncontrollably that happens when the manure strikes the ventilator. There's a generation of drivers that are in their little cocoon of safety that don't know its time to slow their SUV down when the road is slick from snow and ice.

i agree- with false security

This is conducted in a controlled environment (lab), further more airbags have been known to main and/or kill people. Thanks, but I'll take 22ft of steel against flimsy panty material airbags any day of the week.

I keep pace with traffic in my Cs, no problem.
I find locking in the cruise at 55 on the right in my New Yorker a lot more enjoyable now than going as fast as possible in another vehicle. 55 is the sweet spot in that '76 yacht. The ultimate car for the time.
Yah. I'm becoming that old guy on the right....

With his left turn signal on??

Not far from that myself.... I tend to annoy people because I do things like slow down for school zones....

Isn't Florida the land of blue haired people?
I had your car out yesterday and the speedo needle disappeared behind the tach. I'll have take a pic for you before the snow sticks around for good. :woohoo:

I love cruise control, one of my favourite options. Sadly my road trip days seem to be behind me. I only took one last year.

I'd like that. A dash cam video of a WOT through all four gears would finally give me closure.

I'll try to give you a early Christmas present. I only will do that if there is no traffic at all and I'll need at least a mile to get the yacht up to light speed.
