Y39 could mean ANY Special Order, not just for a Hurst 300. And for any body, as well. You can easily have Y39 on a non-Hurst car.

So far, I can still a regular 300 having all the supposed "smoking guns" that makes it a Hurst, numbers wise.

You need the A12.....a regular 300 wont have it. As Will said before, the build sheet will always tell you what it is.

We agreed that early Hursts did not have the A12 code. Yes?
So if you produced tags for any 300 around the period of those early Hursts, you can't verify it as a Hurst or not.

Yes, you can fake a tag. The Boards are full of stories from guys that bought cars with poorly remade and totally fake tags.
The tag is the easiest of the supporting documents to fake. That's why a fender tag should not be the final determination of what the car actually is. An original broadcast sheet, widow sticker or invoice is still better documentation but they do not always exist and they can be forged also.
Knowledge of what came on originals and a visual inspection is vital when purchasing any of the package cars.
Some of the package cars were built in batches with defined serial number ranges. If you can find the range, that helps weed out some of the fake cars. Registries do help.

tThats a reason I despise guys pulling sheets. So many times a guy will buy a car, hunt down every sheet the car has and brag about it... What happens when you sell that car? Many guys dont give the

Good point. People should at least put a photocopy in a sheet protector back under the seat or glove box, or both.

This one is not a Hurst. I had only seen pics of it before today. It is really a disaster. It has 71 Challenger seats and a 79 300 console with an aftermarket shifter. Check out the nice bondo work on the front fender wheel opening. Thanks for the info on identifying it.

All I can say is that he got a fair deal on the car. If he decides to sell it whole or part it, I will make sure it gets on the board. That is all I can do since it isn't mine.

My neighbor is going to sell the car. He is asking $1,500 OBO. The Challenger front seats have been put in a Challenger so it has no front seats. The car is in South Florida.
