I want it, I want it bad......

Stunning! If only it had a white interior.

Just saw this auction on MECUM that's being held this Wednesday in Indianapolis. A low miles mint 68 300. I love it and I want it......don't know if I can pay for it or even want to pay the price this one is going to get at the auction. And there's also the problem of me being 4200 miles away and no way I can be there on the 13th because of my work :BangHead:......

If you really hafta have it, I'm sure you could bid on this car via the internet and / or phone. . .

And let me repeat, it's on a Wednesday. ..
No fat sweaty men in Hawaiian shirts and combovers bidding up the car because his wife with the booby transplant going, OH its the same color as my nails! <squeel>

For my tastes...I like the '68 front end with the hideaway headlights and the rear end of a '67 with the waterfall type tail lights. Too bad you cannot have both.

Well you could if you wanted to but it would be a 67 with the hideaway grille.

That's exactly how I would want one as well.

why do some 68 300's have the black tail panel? And some have body color panels? WHY.

Black out Panels were Standard AFAIK. Possibly not done right after a repaint on the other car or there was a delete code order possible, I've seen this with other model years.

Wrong! The "Silvery background" and 300 letters are NOT on the deck lid. They are on the rear body panel.

I always wondered as well. My 68 300's back panel is black and has never been repainted that my greanfather can recall and it was his car. Ive seen them silver and body color.

Has2b had said that was an early build/late build thing. Not sure which was which.

And I think even the conversational Posts were near identical as here after the question was brought up.

Silver is the early build, that one also has the old style horn button without cushion (like 67)

The later build had the black panel and a new horn button that was padded (probably mandatory by a new law)

If you want it bad enough, the distance is no problem. In this day and age you can buy it making a few phone calls, sending a few e-mails, and finishing the deal by making the required money transfers. No problem at all.

All of which violate rule #1,
Inspect with own eyes.

As an international bidder you need to place a minimum $10k deposit to MECUM before you can even bid on a car, I discovered this on sunday, I didn't succeed to get it there in time. Even if I succeeded I don't know if I would have bid on it, I agree with Stan that it is vital to inspect a car with your own eyes or eyes you can trust. Let's see were the auction ends then I know how bad I will feel.....
