I went to start Shamu, my 69 Fury III vert and the key would not go into the lock cylinder. It worked on the door lock. I tried to insert the key from Elwood (68 Fury II 4 door sedan) and it didn’t work either.
I spent some time applying PB blaster, and used a straightened cotter pin with no joy.
I suspect that the lock cylinder is worn to the point where the tumbler pins are work / getting stuck. I had to jiggle / insert the key a couple of times in the past to get the key to go all the way in.

I am likely going to remove the ignition switch, per the FSM, but wanted to post the situation with the hope of someone replying with a simpler trick / way without pulling the lower dash panel.

Alternatives to the FSM method are appreciated in advance...

if you can't get the key to go in ,i'm afraid you are stuck pulling the lower panel and removing the whole unit.

69 ingition switches and tumblers were always troublesome.
If you can get the tumbler into the "run" position at least it can be swapped out of the switch.
Still have to drop the lower panel for this 69 only pieces.
Hope this helps
