hi all, another simple question from me. my dash and other interior is in decent shape but has obviously hardened over the years. Can you recommend if I should apply something like Armour All or something else? or leave alone? thanks.

Never armor all. It is a sure way to wind up with cracks later. Had a couple of trim guys who swore by furniture polish... but they may have been more about leather than vinyl in the conversations. I am going to be watching for suggestions here too...

for real? just checking....thanks.
For 101% real And it's expensive. This ain't the **** on the shelf at Home Despot.

Unlike other "surface protectants", it bonds to the vinyl so it's simply not a slick shiny slime that sits on top if it.

It does, however, lack the UV inhibitors of the stuff Big John recommended.

I wonder how Marian's dash is holding up after she softened it up with that skin-so-soft, it's been a couple years now so should have some long term knowledge. Anyone heard from her lately?

After Marians suggested SSS, I tried it on my Newport dash pad.
Looked great afterwards. After a cupla weeks, it looked like it did before the application

100% organic purified boiled linseed oil.
You will not believe the results.
No, no! Boiled linseed oil, which by the way isn't boiled but diluted with solvents, is great stuff for growing molds which the stuff is a preferred food source.
A few years ago I searched for a way to stop my dash pad from drying out and discovered "303 areospace protectant". I asked my Chem Engineer brother to look at the chemistry, he liked it. I've used it on all my plastic stuff and it's great. I especially like it on the dash, protects it from UV and "does not reflect any glare into my eyes". In Canada it's sold by crappy tire.

Never use any product containing silicon, it royally screws with plastics and will make any future painting very difficult. Ditto for petroleum based products, they infiltrate the plastic to make it brittle. Basically both silicon and petroleum products flush out the natural lubricants in plastic making them brittle. Check out 303 aerospace protectant.
A little video.

Wow... thanks all for the 303 stuff recommendation... I guess next time I will have a really good answer.:thankyou:

So now, what about leather?

All my cars over the last 20 years or so have been full leather interiors. The leather is the typical "painted" finish and you need to be careful what you rub on it otherwise the "paint" suffers. For deep clean I use old fashioned Saddle Soap, a gentle soap with leather lubricant restoration. For light cleaning I use good old 303 Areospace Protectant. The trick is protect the natural lubricants and avoid petroleum products and silicon products.

Wow, Ive been using Amour All this time on my dash. It's pristine (and still soft) but gets very very dusty cause of the car sitting in the garage so much and the AA seemed to be removing it the best. Now theres something better?

The Armor All will attract dust like there's no tomorrow. I've been using the 303 Protectant for at least 20 years now.
