Searching out new interior for my 1962 Crown 4 door. Well I never looked that close at it but the front seat fabric insert and front door panel fabric does not match the rear seat and door panel. I suspect someone re did the front at some point and that is why the front seat is in better condition then the back seat. I just want to make sure I am getting the right stuff. I did get a sample from SMS that looks very close to the back seat fabric.

Also the carpet in the car seems to be more of a plush carpet and the sample I got is a loop carpet, which is correct?

Unfoundedly I need more than just the fabric, I need them made also. Not really any shops around here that can sew them up for me.

Try the boat people - they still have LOTS of great upholsterers out there. Boating is a thing where the seats get terribly weathered, and recovered regularly.

There is also this place I gleaned from a google search in Milwaukee: EDLO AUTO TRIM

I have tried different local shops and none want to do vehicle upholstery. There is a restoration shop that I am sure will do it, but I would have to get another job to afford it LOL

Hopefully someone can chime in on my different fabric front and back

In looking at a 1962 Crown brochure at www.eatondetroitspring.com (after the vehicle info is input in the main page, the second page comes up with the spring numbers/specs/pricing, on that second page, at the top, is a "Links" icon, click on that to bring up a sales brochure, then click on
the diagonal arrows to get it full screen and expand it) to see the Crown fabrics. From those illustrations, drawn art rather than photographic art, it appears the fabric in the top picture is more accurate, but not exactly accurate for the illustrations.

In this and other car forums, the wait time for SMS to do a sewn upholstery cover can be up to or more than a year. No mention of the prices for such, though.

As to which is correct, you might remove the door panels on the front and rear doors, to see which one has been messed with, to determine which fabric is correct.

Auto Custom Carpet will build molded carpet in a variety of carpet styles.

Good luck,

The D-body Imperial you have began life in model year 1957 and continued to the end of the 1966 model year. It is my (currently unfounded, but might possibly be accurate) suspicion that the floor pan stampings for that generation of Imperial to be close enough to "the same" that an earlier-than 1962 or later-tnan 1962 Imperial might be close enough to work for your 1962. Things changed, of course, with the model year 1967-1973 lengthened-wheelbase C-body cars.

Chasing OEM part numbers might yield different part numbers (for the floor pan sections) over the years, but I suspect they close enough, as we used to say, "For Government work".

Just my suspicion, no more, no less.

Have you looked for info at the Online Imperial Club? They have trim codes and brochures avail by year.

I'm not sure about cut pile vs. Loop carpet in '62 Crown, but I suspect it would be loop. My '62 LeBaron has loop carpet but it is a special ordered interior

Good luck!

For any information about Imperials the IML is the first place I look.

I have looked thought IML a few times but have not been able to locate and actuall color swatch samples for the interiors, just color cards for the exterior.

When I looked at the IML 1962 area, it had the same color brochure I found on the www.eatondetroitspring.com website, but is of a bit higher resolution as when I fully expanded it on my laptop, the pattern of the green cloth/leather swatches looked pretty similar to the new sample you got from SMS. FWIW

United Auto Trim Inc. in Fond du Lac has done a couple truck bench seats for me. Both came out just like factory. About $900 each with spring and foam repairs. And they had them finished FASTER then promised. As soon as I can save up the cash, I'll be taking them a couple more.

Good to know, thanks for the lead. Just did Iola last week, a scorcher again. Why is it always blazing hot or storming...

I'll take hot and sticky over soaked and muddy any year. The "new" car show management is slowly killing this show with "their" improvements. Ask anyone that has been going there for the last 50 some years, and we all feel it is dying a little more each year.

I don't know I have been going over 40 years and as far as show cars it has been really packed the last few years, enough that you have to get their early or you might not find a spot. Looked like they gained a few car coral people this year too. I thought it looked like more people the last couple of years but I could be wrong, the camp grounds does look like it has more open spots the last few years.

Now what they should have done is planted shade trees in the show car area 50 years ago!

SMS rarely if ever gets it wrong on what the fabric is supposed to be, so I'd vote for going with them. As for the carpet, I'd also go with what SMS recommends. Chrysler didn't use plush carpet when your car was built.
