Intermittent Wipes

Hs anyone put intermittent wipers on their older New Yorkers? My 1975 NYer has only a two speed wiper system and I really like the intermittent wiper feature. Any idea on how to convert? Paul
 
You need a new motor, the matching linkage, the intermittent switch, and of course, the wiring diagram and all the wiring.
I remember back in the day, you could buy a little add-on kit to make your wipers variable speed, but I would imagine there's no such thing anymore.

Before the intermittent wipers, the upgrade wiper option on C-bodies was "Variable Speed Wipers", which my '66 Newport Town Sedan has. Works well. But I also like the intermittent wipers, too.

As a point of reference, to do a complete intermittent wiper system on a popular non-Mopar sporty car, the whole thing is like $700.00. In any situation, not just something you can bolt on.

I remember the intermittent wiper "adapter" that Radio Shack used to sell. Probably something similar to what Ford used, back then, as the guy that invented the Ford system allegedly got fired as they "took" his design? Seems like that was in about 1968 or so?

The problem with any of those kits, old or new, is you will probably lose the "parking" feature of the wipers. You shut the wipers off, the motor reverses and puts the wipers low on the windshield.

Myself, I just wax the snot out of the windows and that acts better than Rain-X. At speed, you don't need the wipers. I don't drive them much in the rain anyway...

Most likely, so some studying of the wiring diagrams will be necessary. I'm going to look into this in the near future.
 
I'll admit I have never read the installation instructions for one of those kits, but I always suspicioned that they got their power from the main wiper switch, then their timing function could be operative. Perhaps the box could be left "On" as the main switch was switched "Off"? Which should not affect any "Park" functions as those would be controlled by the main switch?

I suspect there is a "park switch"(in the wiper motor) on any depressed-park wiper system, possibly similar on exposed-park systems?

Just some suspicions,
