Is ther suppose to be insulation between the engine and intake manifold?

I myself have only had to ever dig that deep twice and there were acorns both times, baked.

I had to use a shop vac after I removed the cast iron intake there was so many acorns. i also had to shop vac the cowl drain area. It was packed with leaves and mostly acorns too. I couldn't believe how deep that cowl drain was.

Oh its deep.......so much rust comes from a clogged cowl.

That is one hell of a rust trap if you don't keep it cleaned out.
