Hello Everyone.....here's a few words about my lifelong relationship with our wonderful Mopars.....
I drove my first Chrysler product when I was 12......a '57 DeSoto that was still pretty new......this was in 1960....and I was hooked. Next was a '58 New Yorker and in '62 I got an after school job at my local Chrysler dealer sweeping floors and cleaning the new deliveries as they came off the truck. I was hooked on '62's at that point and have owned one consecutively since 1966.
I've had all sorts of Mopars over the years, a couple of those were letter cars.....a 'D' coupe....an 'H' convertible, right up to Super Bee's and Road Runners.....slab side wagons....one was a really nice '69 Plymouth wagon....and a '72 Coronet wagon ex police with the 400 Magnum package......a '67 New Yorker 4 dr. htp. with the 440 TNT and suspension package.....had no idea a car of that size could do a flat slide through a 90 degree corner dead flat......great car.
I have four daughters.....who all learned to drive on these cars......the two oldest were surprised to learn that there were levers rather than push buttons to put a car in gear. They all learned to drive standards on Mopars.....a couple of three on the tree Valiants.......( we won't mention the Jap stuff that my friends brought over that they drove ....)
My driver is a '03 Range Rover that was built when BMW owned Land Rover.......essentially an X5 that looks like a Range Rover......I work in Traffic Management and Engineering and this is my mobile office........but.......
Once I'm back at the house and the dogs are fed and walked.........I head for the shop and continue my love affair with my '62 300 Convert........it's soooo nice to open the hood and know exactly what's going on in the engine room.....after fifty odd years of dicking around with these things it's like putting on an old jacket......fits perfectly....and will 'til the day I go out feet first.
I'll attach some photos......in the meantime here's a copy of the first posting when I introduced myself.....thanks again......
"I decided to register on your site because I too, recently bought a 300 Sport convertible. I am so glad that the fellow that I bought mine from in LA is as much of a gentleman as he is. He went out of his way to ensure that I was able to drive the car up I-5 to British Columbia without any problems. The car had sat for 12 years and needed the brakes done, from master cylinder on down, which he did for me at no additional cost. Same thing with the tires.....he installed new radials at his expense, along with new belts, hoses, and a complete tune up and carb kit. Couldn't have asked for a better man to deal with...... now he's become a good friend. He and his family are welcome at my front door any time they can make it up here.
As for the car, it's a rust free LA car that needs a lot of cosmetic work. The 413 runs and drives very well and the car is reasonably tight for it's age. I had a 'H' convert 30 odd years ago and obviously should not have let it go......but who knew?...... after getting this one I'm beginning to feel redeemed.......I've had a '62 300 Sport 4 door hard top for a number of years that I had ignored due to " life getting in the way"......now I'm stoked up again and want to do them up.......I'm attaching a photo of them both and 'Chrysler Special Car Order" sheet which I found under the dash behind the Astrodome in the convertible......Thanks again for having me on board......Chris...."
