Wondering where the best places are to jack up my '71 300 using a hydraulic floor jack? I don't want to mess any of the unibody. Can you jack the back end using the differential pumpkin? What about for the front?

thank you,
Todd

Yes, the pumpkin is perfectly fine....to say that it is robust is an understatement. However, if you plan to remove rear wheels you need to set the frame down on jackstands just in front of the springs so the axle assembly drops down so the tires clear the wheelwell opening. Of course, NOBODY with any sense works on a car with only a hydraulic jack holding it up. What separates your life vs. the jack suddenly collapsing? Rubber o-rings.

As for the front, the center of the K-member is also robust and just fine for lifting. Jackstands go on the frame rails somewhere under the door hinges.

CENTER of the rear axle housing and under the CENTER of the stubframe under the oil pan . . . IF you want to elevate each side of the car equally.

OF course, the center of the spring saddles on each side of the rear end, if working on that one side. Similarly, under the outer "flat" area of the front lower control arm. This way, you can raise the tire just enough to change it.

Otherwise, check the Chrysler Factory Service Manual, in the front sections, for "jacking points".

When working underneath the car, ALWAYS place sturdy jack stands (noting their weight capacity!) under the end of the car being worked on. Using the "jacking points" illustrated in the FSM as a guide.

Just my experiences,

Thank you! I always use jack stands as I do not care to be accidentally crushed to death.
I do usually check the shop manual, but I've temporarily misplaced my CD.
Thank you both!

You can also free-download a FSM at www.mymopar.com and save it to a "D Drive" to carry with you and your laptop, if desired. Might need to manually-input that address.

That big heavy crossmember is good for jacking the front up. put it in neutral so the jack don't slip and hit the pan. If your jack wheels move freely then you will be ok
