I pulled the old diff out. The centers sure look the same. Both spider gear carriers have a 3" opening. They have the same main casting number on the pumpkin. The clean/dry one is the new 3.55 geared one going in.
Not true for up to 64. Chrysler never started using the beveled clutches to preload the unit till 65 or 66. They just used the ramps on the pins. KimIf it was a sure grip, they would both spin in the same direction. You have an open rear end.

As u can see he meant the pumpkin. KimI have been reading this and I keep hearing people mention axles and blocks and of course shims and the block. I thought the person wanted to know if a complete rear end assembly could be swapped in?
