My real seal on my 66 GTO decided to start leaking. Before trying to replace, I was reading an additive like Blue Devil or Barr’s might do the trick. The car sat under raps in a climate contrived building for 2-3 years before I bought it. Does anyone have any experience with this type of product?

Once a rope seal rear main seal starts to seep, nothing to seek to expand with chemical or whatever. Might investigate the possibility of upgrading to a lip seal (as can be dome on Buick V-8s).

As the car sat unused for a good while, might see if it'll dry up with use? Ensure that the crankcase vent system is working, too.

Enjoy!

If you ask me a rope seal is superior to a lip seal.

We had a 73 Dart in the shop with a leaking rear main, one of the other guy's replaced it with a new fel-pro seal and it still leaked. The boss put in a rope seal and the leak is gone

I had sucess with a front pump seal, that was leaking in a rebuilt 727 transmission, on my 68 Chrysler, after not being on the road for a year. I tried the Blue Devil trans seal. At first nothing, but over a three, week period, running the vehicle each day, the leak was less and less. Now two months later, it does not leak a drop. Obviously, each situation is unique, and a new seal would be the ultimate repair. Just thought I would share my experience.

Guy that sold me my first PK21 told me that if you put just one (1) cap of brake fluid in a leaking automatic transmission it will soften up the seals and swell them to stop a seal leak. This was from someone (a plumber) that replaced the noisy throw-out bearing in his K5 Blazer (cheap) without doing the clutch plate only to have the clutch slip months later (plow vehicle).
