You can probably find prior information via Google Images. Seems like they have a tour of the "old time" '50s-style hot rod garages in town? Flathead Mercuries and similar? LOTS of car stuff going on in TX this month!

I never attended that one but I attend several just like it through out the year in my neck of the woods and find there is more to do/see and a whole lot more fun than the normal , sit by your car and wait to be judged show.

Yeah but it's 820 milez from El Paso to Orange and about the same from Brownsville to the top of the Pan Handle. No matter where the show iz it ain't just rite around the corner from anywhere to anywhere in the Lone Star, lol
But WE know that Chryslers are "road cars", fwiw. THAT's where those 2.76 gears really pay off. Many of the "far areas" of TX have speed limits past 75mph too. My '66 Newport (with HD shocks) had a "feels good" cruising speed of 75-90mph. At 70mph, it felt "bored". At 95mph, the suspension started to feel "busy". But 75-90 is where the 383 2bbl liked to be.
But as neat as the Lone Star Roundup might be, the "car season" is just beginning to "bloom", everywhere. Many events, some of which will be closer to y'all.

I had no way of knowing you called The Lone Star home. It'z not on your Avitar? What part of THE STAR if I might ask? Houston and San Antonio Mopar Groups are both great groups of friendly folkz. I found the Austin Mopar Group to be ah bit snooty if you drove anything other then a B-body or E-body. Wife and I called Austin home back in the '90s. Lotta fun timez back then and still miss the friendz we made. I got up to 10 "TOYS" in those yearz and still had 2 left out in the sun, lol
I'm an original and continuing member of "The Fort Worth Group". Originally known as North Loop Dodge Performance Team (the sponsoring dealership) and which became "Cowtown Mopars Performance Team" when Allen Samuels put his name on all of his stores, so we had to alter our group's name a bit. Used to be that each of the TX Mopar clubs had annual shows. We used to jockey with the Waco group as to who was first, but we ended up with that space on the calendar, as a result. Back then, there were Fort Worth, Waco, Austin, Houston, San Antonio, and Dallas. Our shows were always in April, which gave us the chance to get our show out of the way early so we could go to everybody else's Mopar show during the rest of the year and have fun. We always tried to support the other clubs' events, with several members going to the Houston, Austin, and San Antonio clubs' event. Waco and Dallas were "just down the road a bit". "Friends all over". It was always good to see everybody AND the cars!
One thing about our shows, back then, that no TWO shows were the same. Just the way it worked out. Each year there were some of the same cars, but many different ones too. If it was Chrysler Produced/Powered, we'd find a place for it, no matter what. It was work, but it was fun, too. Some great times! Great memories, too!

We joined the Lone Star chapter of the western 300 club. Houston Mopars and San Antonio Mopars and visited the Austin Group JUST ONCE. THAT WAZ ENOUGH FOR ME. Houston and San Antonio groups used to have a joint get-together at the Chrysler Dealership in Bastrop every spring(might still be going on?) San Antonio always held their annual meet at the Chrysler Dealership on Broadway in S.A. 'bout 5-6 blocks north of the PIG STAND Drive-in. I hear that they moved that fall meet out on the west side loop to another Dealership. A Friend and his wife were big into chargers too, All-tho She did have her own Viper as well, lol. We used to hook up with them in Bourne when the Charger National held their meets there too. We have life long Car-Bud friends as well that live in Boyd ah bit N.W. of the Fort that we still communicate with, and we've partied at the Stock Yardz with them there too. Many trips to Pate in the spring before the family sold out their property there and shut everything down. Never could get excited about sitting at the Race Track when they started holding the Pate meets there tho'. Even the trees at pate allowed for ah little shade but not that oval, OUI. Kinda hard to make those meets from Wilmington, N.C. too tho' aye? Happy Trails, Jer

Well the Lone Star Roundup was super cool, and even with my new 3.55 gear, the big Newport did fantastic. Google says the round trip was a tick over 2200 miles, making it a proper road trip in my opinion, and it was a good one.

Yeah I think the 3.23 would be the ultimate compromise between hwy cruising and and stoplight getup n go, but I love how responsive the car is with the 3.55. Anything taller and I’d hate to drive er long distances, unless I upgrade to some sort of overdrive
