Title says (almost) all. Medina, my 1971 Monaco, is getting back to her original GY9, and I need a new Pentastar emblem for her RHS front fender. Cheap repops are all over the place, but I would prefer NOS. It is my understanding from this 2020 thread that Chrysler switched to plastic in 1966 or 1967 while keeping the part number, so if someone has a metal NOS one from 1966 then I'd be most interested.

AMS Obsolete shows three in stock but you would need to request more information about plastic vs. metal.... They will go and check the part and let you know.

Photo from their website - does this look like metal or plastic?

All of the plastic pentastars the gold fades/wears away eventually turns all black. I have several cars that has happened to over the years.
I just changed one out for new gold pentastar on my red Challenger a few weeks ago.
I still need to replace the pentastar on my 12' Challenger that I installed on it back in 13'. It is all black now.

Interesting. The one I have for my '70 has a black plastic base, but the actual Pentastar is a separately applied stamped metal with a gold finish.

Interesting in that all of my cars still have a good-looking pentasutar. Maybe the repops are not as good as the originals?

Question: how easy is it to pull it /replace it? @6PKRTSE @Ross Wooldridge @cbarge @Samplingman

I think a speed nut is attached to the larger post from the back of the fender. I can't tell because the post on mine is broken off. You might be able to use a barrel clip that goes into the hole first so you can push the Pentastar in from the outside of the fender.

Is the correct color gold or silver? Here’s why I’m asking:

I don't think they ever used silver, maybe in the 90s, I think the original that had a tin cap faded to silver.
Not sure why the silver repos exist other than people like them.

Looks silver to me. Might be faded IDK. This one is off the parts car, October’69 SPD. I'll have to locate my other one, but I think that one is from '71 or '73.

Have not heard back from AMS Obsolete yet, so will probably call them. Here is the repop from Bill Rolik, about which lots of good stuff is said in this FABO thread:

Below is the one from AMS Obsolete:

And here is a claimed NOS one on eBay:

Finally, here is a $95 NOS from Hiltop:

All of them look gold, but the edges do not look exactly the same -- the sharpness of the angles and the length/depth of the grooves seem slightly different, though it might be the light.

Comments?

Yeah, need to call AMS for best response time. I'm not sure if they respond to emails.
Also - Murray?
I got a repro one from QQD a couple years ago. I need to inspect it now with all this new information. Herb's parts may have one too.

I'll request some help with the correct location since my car doesn't have a hole.
