Loose center console lid

I am trying to get together my winter to do list. Those of you who have buckets and the center console, how have you secured the lid? They have those damn studs with no threads. I have bought new factory style nuts but nothing stays tight.

Any suggestions? A picture of Goldie I came across yesterday because we like pictures :)

If my memory serves me right, my '66 has only two non-threaded studs, and the rest are screws. I don't have pictures, as the car is in pieces. Good luck.
 
Mine are all unthreaded studs. Where the acorn nuts are located, 3 have fallen off.

maybe a plastic washer under that

Nylon might have a bit more give than plastic IDK..

Thanks but I have tried them too and they get loose and fall off too. What are your guys thoughts of a small die to thread the pot metal and then just put a nut on it? Can you cut thread on something that small and short?
Yes you can thread something that small, remove the lid and find a die the right size be cautious though

Mike, there has to be a push-on acorn nut in that size somewhere.

Wow, Mike. With so many shared parts between the '65 and '66, I'm surprised to see a change in the Console Lid Hinge and a poor design change at that! Below is a pic of my hinge. Note the (3) bolts on the Console end and the Lid end. Sorry I can't be of more help. Way more sturdy design.

 
Now that I look at your pic again, I see the big difference: mine opens front to rear while yours opens side to side.

I knew yours was different I have wished they had never changed it, plus yours is just cooler with the 300 badge on it, hint hint I forget exactly how it looks. :)
 
Instead of twist-on, how about push-on fasteners like these starloks?

These were common for door panel assemblies through later 90s and early 2000s... look at Grand Cherokees... there were lots of sizes on different cars/components. I'm not to sure after that...
They are very strong, usually just cut them off to save time when doing work so the dealer may have new ones in stock. Try Dorman for aftermarket replacements.
I would not remove material by threading the pot metal... as Stan said... "if you break one, then what?"
