Loose center console lid

The one thing I do like about the '66 console is the chromed louvered indirect light luminating the rear seat.

I can think of two choices. One is a self threading pal nut like this:

One other option is that you cut the studs off and drill and tap some holes. Probably 10-24 would work.

If I did that, I would find some long set screws and thread them in with some sort of thread locker (even super glue would work here) and then use a nut to secure it in place.

Another option is you cut off the studs and drill for a self tapping screw.
 
The idea of intentionally cutting off a stud? I couldn't do it.
I'd find a NOS '65 console first before maiming a perfectly good pc. of trim.
I know finding one is ridiculous but it's an incentive to not cut the prong off.

Tried the pal nut didn't work. For the record I will not cut or tread the studs. Something will work out of all the suggestions. If I need to I will J B weld the hinge to the lid. I can still remove it from the console.
