Dawn Wells beat out 350 other women including Raquel Welch for the role of Mary Ann.

Mary Ann and Ginger were so different, I don't really compare them. What made the 60's TV shows a LOT better than they would have otherwise been were the character actors that filled out their casts. Actors who played them were a lot more experienced/talented than those characters led you to believe. Dawn Wells was a perfect example of this, and was great as Mary Ann. Not surprising that she had so many shows under her belt, I hadn't known of the Broadway / off-Broadway acting, but it's no surprise. RIP Dawn, and thanks for all the smiles, laughter, etc.
