Next weekend 11/22 & 11/23 Muscle Car And Corvette Nationals in Rosemont, IL right next to O'Hare. I'm driving my '73 Polara Custom Wagon with the 440 4bbl in it from New Jersey along with my son. RT80 nearly all the way. We'll be featured in what they call the MOPAR Alley. We're looking to hook up with anyone heading out that way.

With snow on the ground this morning hopefully you don't run into bad weather. Be sure to take plenty of pics. Have a safe trip.

Excellent point Fred, that car needs to be hauled in an enclosed trailer this time of year

My son and I made the trip to MCACN's in Chicago and the '73 Polara Custom Wagon was a big hit, especially with the sign about driving it there. Fantastic show with MOPARS well represented. 1625 miles round trip and the car could not have run better. Didn't even need to add a quart of oil. We hit some snow in western PA but stayed south through Akron to avoid more of it in Cleveland. We drove through the night, about 13 hours each way and the 440 flattened out the hills and just purred all the way. We got right around 13 MPG, not bad for doing 70-75 most of the way. We arrived in Chicago about 9am and found a hand car wash a few blocks from the show. $7.00 and they did such a great job I gave them a $5 tip and it was still a bargain.
These big wagons were made to do exactly what we did with it. We were a little concerned heading out but a few hours into the trip we were over that. Absolutely no regrets, it was a blast.

You have more courage than I do particularly with snow and salt. Glad everything worked out well for you. Thanks for the update.

I have to admit, our level of fun for the weekend was directly linked to how well the car performed. We both figured, you only live once, let's give it a try. The car was perfect. It was like driving it in 1973. After the first fuel stop in 19 degree temps our worries subsided and we both realized that taking the road trip was a good idea. It turned out to be a great weekend, great car show and great road trip all in one, thanks to a 41 year old station wagon.

I forgot to mention...the car looked brand new with the hubcaps and white walls once it was cleaned up and inside under the lights. My dad and I were both glad that the car was so well received. MCACN caters to big money, very exclusive muscle cars and we were both a little tentative about the reaction we would get with a 1973 station wagon lined up among Hemicudas, Yenko Camaros and GTO Judges etc...the wagon had a crown around it all weekend though.

Do you need a wheel barrow to carry those around. Seriously though good job glad you shared and enjoyed.

I am impressed with your journey, well done! These old cars are great for road trips IMO. I don't shy away from the occasional quarter high pressure car wash although I hand wash with the hose and a bucket most of the time. Gotta do whatcha gotta do sometimes.
