First time out this year. Hoping everyone has a safe Memorial Day weekend, and let’s remember those who sacrificed so that we may enjoy our freedoms. I also hope this doesn’t turn into a political argument thread, we already have a pretty good one of those.

Remember, Memorial Day is for recognition of the war dead, and for the veterans who have passed.away.

Veteran's Day recognizies the LIVING veteran.

Armed Forces Day recognizes those Reservists, National Guard, and Active Duty still serving.

The days aren't interchangeable.

Wishing someone "Happy Memorial Day" is inappropriate.

Enjoy your weekend, and remember why this day exists.

Thanks for making the effort to display the flag on memorial day. See: Flag Etiquette and Rules | How to Display Flags | American Flag and Flagpole Co
(flag should hang level with an unobstructed view)

I'm sorry, Memorial Day is only for those who died WHILE IN SERVICE.
Veterans Day is for all Veterans, living or those who died AFTER serving.

Not going to quibbble about it. To me, Memorial Day is to memorialize BOTH the warfighter who died in action AND the deceased warfighter, whether on or off the field of battle. End.

It may be to you but it is incorrect.
Look it up.
Its why we have both observances not just one.

Not all Veterans were warfighters.

As a 20-year AF vet, and spent another 20 years plus in the defense industry...I'm. Not. Gonna. Quibble.

Enjoy. Your. Day.

God grant eternal peace and rest to those brave individuals who gave all to preserve and protect our freedoms and way of life.
My hope is that everyone take a moment and remember their sacrifice and what it means to us as one nation, under God with the unalienable rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

And also do not forget those who came back horribly maimed, both physically and mentally.

Dave

I don't care how many years ya spent in the military, or how many years in the defense industry (whatever that has to do with anything) Memorial Day is for those who died while serving.
Look it up.
There is a difference between dying while serving and dying 50 years later. We have a day to specially honor those who died while serving. The ultimate sacrifice.
Its not quibbling. Its a serious matter.

Whatever. You observe it your way, I'll observe it mine. Quit Quibbling. I have six relatives who've died in war, several friends same, and more friends who've died off the battlefield. All will get the same respect this Memorial Day. Quit being a dickhead. Out.
