MOPAR/DELCO 357 AM/FM radio works on FM, but not AM

I just re-connected the factory AM/FM radio in my 1964 Imperial. It had been bypassed and disconnected 30 years ago by a prior owner who wired in a Sanyo AM/FM stereo radio and cassette player. Now that I've hooked it up again it plays nicely on FM, but no AM. There is a static blip when I use the AM/FM selector slide switch, but no radio sound. My suspicion is the slide switch, but that's just a guess. Any better-informed (than mine) opinions? Is this common?

This is a bit of a long shot, but worth a try. Go to Section 1-11 of the FSM and you'll see the antenna trimming procedure.

Get a FSM here if you don't have one. Service Manuals – MyMopar

I have the FSM but when it has been a trimmer issue in the past there has always been at least one AM station that could be tuned in, while in this case there are none. Still, I think it is a great suggestion which I will try, thank you! UPDATE: I just read the chapter, but it does not state where the trimmer is located. On an AM radio I know you remove the tuning knob and there's a hole on the face plate through which the trimmer screw is accessed. There's no such hole here.

Also check your antenna connections. You can get FM, with a bad one, but not AM.

Interesting. The antenna cable is a poor friction fit and appears to be incorrect for the application. I have ordered another one. I guess if I'm lucky between the better cable and some trimming work, this may be solved. Thank you
