In 1971 NASCAR limited the wing cars to 305 cubic inches in the hope that no one would even try to compete in them. This way, they wouldn't actually have to ban them. However, this guy showed up at the Daytona 500 with a Keith Black built engine and finished 7th even after being involved in a crash. It was the last wing car to compete in NASCAR.
This is NASCAR at work: don't expect the worst to get better; just eliminate the best. Bring the good down to the level of the not-so-good. Mediocrity rules.
Yea I tried to listen to last weekends Watkins Glen race on the radio, soon as I heard Stage 1 was completed, I turned it off. I guess every race now is a stage race?
