Back in the day, Gulf Gasoline had three types of Gas, "Good Gulf", "Gulf No-Nox" and "Gulf Crest". The gas pump colors where Orange, White and Purple accordingly. Typical good-better-best marketing. It was the Purple Gulf Crest color that Marty liked and used for most of his racing career. His yellow color changed quite a bit over the years. We were able to get this purple color code and recreate the paint color for the Daytona. This paint color is very light sensitive. It changes from dark purple to bubble gum pink based on lighting and sun conditions. That is why there is so much variation in the pictures of Marty's cars one would see on the internet.
55 years ago today (25 January 1965) promising NASCAR Grand National driver Larry Thomas (28) died in a highway accident on Interstate 75. Thomas' Plymouth struck another vehicle from behind, hurtled through a guard rail and down a steep embankment, after he had apparently fallen asleep at the wheel. https://bit.ly/2DKKjJ2
