Well a couple of weekends ago we ran up to inlaws house and grabbed the 3 383 he had.

Block #1
Original block to 65 fury III. Manual trans.Been sitting in basement for 40 years! Bored 30 over. Had box of new 30 over pistons on rods. looks like just a good cleaning and ready to go back together. now the problem is we don't have and can't find the main caps!! original head rusted from sitting in truck for 40 years. 2.08 intake 1.60 exhaust.

Block #2
"GTX block" is what i was told it came out of? Automatic trans.Pistons stuck Standard bore removed heads one head has one rusted off valve cylinder side. other head has two rusted off valves cylinder side. rest looks good if i can break pistons free and get to rotate. Heads have 2.08 intake and 1.74 exhaust.

Block #3
Unknown app? Automatic trans. Pistons stuck 40 over bore and decked. One cylinder a little rusty trying to get to rotate. Removed heads all looks good no rusted valves. same as block #2 2.08 intakes and 1.74 exhaust. This are the heads we will be using.

Now i'm sure blocks can be saved and used but I NEED MAIN CAPS FOR OURS??

How much are blocks #2 and #3 worth with no heads? and are the original heads and #2 block head worth selling both nee reworked. I also have 5 cast 4 barrel intakes and 1 2 barrel intake with carb. What are they worth? i need to sell parts to buy main caps and line bore. I don't want to use the other blocks we are using origial block!

Anyone need parts??

found a site online for main caps. 440source.com anyone ever bought from them?

I've only bought small things from them (wtr pumps, fuel pumps, etc) but I've read a lot of gripes about them here and on other boards. Take that for what its worth.

I wouldn't feel bad about buying the caps from 440source. Yea... I know... their problems with heads etc... These are pretty simple hunks of machined steel and it would be really hard to screw them up.

I have extra oem sets of main caps available.

GTXs came with 440s. The last two 383 standard bore engines cores that I sold went for 150 bucks each without heads and it took a while to sell at that price. I sold all my core 906 heads for $25 each but that was because the same guy bought 16 of them, no rocker arms or shafts. I try to get more for them but they just don't sell. 2 barrel intakes are worth there weight in scrap and 4 barrels go for 50 bucks depending on the year maybe more but not much. 440 parts go for a little more, I was selling standard bore blocks with forged cranks and main caps for $300 each and they weren't selling too fast at that price.
Just shipped the last one of those I had today.
I should also say that that's here in the Detroit area.

GTXs came with 440s. .

That what i thought too from what i've read. This is a 383 though. Same cast numbers as the other 2 blocks. The GTX was raced down in texas back in the day brfore my father inlaw bought it. I bet before they sold it they swaped in the 383.

With replacement aftermarket caps or a OEM replacement caps you will need to line hone the block

His oem caps will be on there way today and I suggested a line hone which he was already planning.

Oh yeah i know I'll have to line bore it. But I'm not paying for it the father inlaw is cause he lost them and he "wants" the original block back in it. And so do i. Will be first car I'll be put oem block back in.

Thanks again Matt. I hope they line up close so it wont need a lot of time on the machine at $60 a hour.

A 496 sounds awesome, I should build the 383 in the father inlaws 65 sport fury

Forgot to tell ya Matt but i got the main caps saturday! They look great hope they line up good so it won't take to much time line boring.

Big thanks again!
