Data plate pictures?​

All of the moldings are OEM, not added on. No aftermarket items of that era would fit so well. Check the sales brochures. Upper fender moldings probably cross with the Town & Country items?

Not a color combination that we might have considered "normal" back then, but certainly very striking by any measure.

The belt molding is stock, but the rocker panel molding seems to be added.

Thanks for all the positive comments. I found it on one of the old car websites. The car was in Virginia and my wife and I road tripped it to pick it up. Trailering that bad boy back through the Apalachians was intense. The interior is red and the belt line molding is factory. I plan to keep it as original as possible. The tires had plenty of tread but the paperwork that came with shows they were put on in ‘03, so I had new tires put on (the young guys at the tire shop didn’t seem to know they’re called whitewalls). I replaced the heater control unit with an NOS piece and converted the ignition to electronic. There’s 66k on the clock so I’ll replace the tierod ends. As far as non original changes go, (besides the ignition), it doesn’t have power brakes, so I’d like to put on a booster. It has drums all around but I’m ok with that. I also want to put on dual exhaust.

U-Haul to the rescue again! Nice looking Scamp/Dart/whatever you told them it was. Try the brakes the way they are before adding the booster,they might be manageable enough the way they are.

I'll speak for myself and some others here, we'd love to see underhood shots and the fender tag, and any and all pictures you'd like to post. We can never get enough of someone else's car, especially when it's as clean as yours is. Congratulations again.

I'd say the rocker panel molding looks like one of a 1970 Imperial. It's just that these would be longer due to the extended wheelbase of the Imperial, so they might be shortened on one end to make 'em fit the Newport.

Great car, congratulations.

While I don't consider your plans for improvement basically objectionable, personally I wouldn't Change a Thing on this time capsule. The power Booster won't improve brake Performance of the drum Setup just eases Operation a bit, and the old unmodified ignition System will last well without any issues if you use the good NOS parts of the past. I run my DD for decades without Problems.

I love my black Chrysler too, but I wasn't nearly as fortunate as you in finding such a rare unmolested gem. I thought the 71 Newports were the best of the fuselage ones. But I am more than ecstatic with my black one anyway as well. But mine will look like yours soon enough. Glad yours fell into the right hands. Enjoy to the max!

It`s a Newport. The Royal would have a flat rear bumper (se-used style, which 70 Newport and Custom had). The 71 Newport has that bumper with the recessed area between the tail lamps and the Newport Custom would have vertical strips on the tail lamps and the recession. The latter would also have vinyl rub strip running along the sides, but positioned lower than belt line moldings.
